Many thought the topic of love would be considered a taboo at a club like this, but not for Harrislam.
On February 14th, commonly known to many as Valentine’s Day, the leaders of MSA decided to kick things up a notch in spirit of the holiday and have a love themed meeting. How many MSA’s do you know who do that?
Here, they established what is true and not true in Islam. Let’s admit it, it’s something we’ve all been dying to know anyways.
Many students had misconceptions of how marriage and relationships were viewed in Islam, especially non-Muslims. In fact, Ashanay Allen, a dedicated member, heard rumors that women were complete slaves to their husbands! The board were sure glad to have held this meeting.
She was very enthusiastic at the end. “It was a really great lesson to learn about because I didn’t want go
around with wrong information. I was completely charmed by the talks and I’m happy to say I leave the room today, not only informed, but enlightened”.
Another student, Emylia Rochyadi commented, “Although I’m a Muslim, my parents never really talk about this stuff with me. It’s important to know about your religion, and how to conduct yourself so you can be the best Muslim possible. I also enjoyed it because we were able to make jokes, and it was a very comfortable setting.”
After learning the truth that lies beneath, leaders talked about Muhammed (SAW) and his relationship with his wives. What a better example than him? Turns out he was a romantic as well!
People were able to see how he lived his life, and how we should model our relationships after his. Every few moments, there were outbreaks of “aws” and “how cute!” While this was occurring, handmade red velvet cupcakes were distributed to everyone who showed up, so that as
they were intrigued by a topic rarely discussed, they could fulfill their taste buds. It was one of the most successful meetings to have happened this school year.
